Catching Up

My Uncle Daniel from California took some time this afternoon to share a few thoughts with me. It was an unexpected call yet very warranted. Conversation lasted more than an hour (much valued) and time well spent.

He was sharing some of his personal hardships he faced as a kid. How he struggled with life yet molded him into the person he is today. One important aspect he said, was that he would never go back and change a thing. Not one second of his accumulated life would he ever want to alter or improve. He continues… it’s hard to look ahead where there’s no roadmaps or is unclear. But also looking back doesn’t make him put trophies on the shelf. No, it’s a reminder of the sacrifices, strengths & people that helped him get ahead. But the most important and cannot be without is—Love. He said if you have that in you, you will go far. He also shared his relationships with his kids, wife and himself. I believe I knew where he was going with this and couldn’t agree more. From his voice I can tell how much he’s kept that family close and will do anything to maintain a strong foundation.

I may not have a family of my own, but I have a profound appreciation for the example he shared with me today. Sometimes, the most meaningful lessons come from simply listening to someone who's lived them.

Thx Tio.
