Since I’m back to exercising and jogging, I contemplated where the next place to train at. Seeing how it was a gorgeous day, I immediately thought of a place I frequent to do my therapy run. Hesitated a bit because it was a drive. Another excuse right! Yes, I know… Bit my tongue, finished my latte, grabbed my bag and headed downtown.

The route is basically a loop, stretching from the Hawthorne Bridge all the way to the Steel Bridge. On days like this, I drop whatever plans I had in order to take advantage of this activity. So I drove, parked, and walked toward the starting point. Because I’m still getting back into shape and my muscles are building toward a stronger form, this route felt longer than normal given where I am in my current journey. Instead of jogging the entire route, I decided to walk it, simply to give my body a sense of what awaits me in the next couple of days.

Coming around to the other side of the route, there’s a flea market known as the Saturday Market, which takes place during the summer. Little did I know, there was an actual event going on. There was a section closed off for events that happen throughout the year, so I started to think… okay, it’s not Cinco de Mayo, not the 4th of July… so what could it be? I figured I’d get a sense of it by the type of crowd I came across.

There was a lot of goth/punk attire as I walked through the crowd. Hmm… still scratching my head, I was clueless. By this time, I really needed to use the restroom, and even the line for the porta-potties was backed up. Great!!! So, Paddy’s Bar & Grill wasn’t too far away, and I headed that way. Once there, I quickly sat at the bar, ordered an Arnold Palmer, and headed to the restroom. Great—mission accomplished. I was still baffled by the crowd I had passed at the market, so I asked the bartender what event was going on. She explained and told me the name. Then, this couple sitting next to me chimed in thus explaining it in more detail. You could tell both he and his girlfriend were super stoked to attend and see the artists performing. The event was the: Bridge City Block Party. Apparently, it’s a pretty big deal, and they play a lot of EDM (electronic dance music). I remember when I was into techno back in the day. I’m sure it’s changed over the years, but it would still be interesting to see what the crowd is like. Prob have to get an outfit first to blend in. Can you see me dressed in goth attire? 😂 Although, to be fair, the couple I met at the bar were dressed normally. They were super nice and friendly.

Had a great time with the couple and appreciated for all the insight. You never know what events or people you come across, but at least I’m more educated on this type of genre. I know my sister had her goth days so next time I’ll take her with me.
