Becoming

“I’ve learned to love the things I’d most wished had not happened. What punishments of God are not gifts?”

This is a quote from Stephen Colbert during an interview. Though it’s Sunday, I didn’t want to simply write about the message heard today, nor a specific verse. It hit me during a discussion as the topic was about prayer. Again, not just because it’s church day peeps, but more from a separate environment. An open-ended dialogue that we can all share from. During my jog this morning, I heard this quote come up. Did my little research and found that, ‘What punishments of God are not gifts’, refers to: suffering or pain are eventually summed up as a gift of life and can shape us in insightful ways. Then, ‘I’ve learned to love the things I’d most wished had not happened’, plain and simple, is to appreciate life—a gift. That suffering is inescapable part of human existence.

This resonated with me today.
