Get Moving Again

I revisited something from my past today—bringing it back into the sunlight after being away for some time. The feeling was almost like a re-discovery, a moment where I could tap into different timeline points of my life and reconnect with a part of myself I had forgotten.

Just a few days ago, I hit another wall. It was a blow that knocked me down cold. It wasn’t something I wished for or saw coming. It simply appeared around the corner and ran straight toward me, hitting me head-on.

So many negative thoughts came rushing through my mind, both physically and emotionally. It threw me off so much that I didn’t know how to respond or how to deal with the aftermath that followed. That familiar fight-or-flight feeling settled in.

But deep down, I knew I needed to take a beat. I needed to sit with what had just happened rather than immediately react to it.

It took a day or two of reflection before I realized that something needed to change. A pivot. A shift in momentum. A change in direction—not to stop moving forward, but to find a different way to keep going.

Then I remembered a passion of mine that has carried me through difficult times since I was young. It helped me break barriers, pushed me beyond my limits, and carried me toward places I never imagined I would go.

For a while, I had convinced myself that my current age was an excuse. I thought it might take weeks before I felt comfortable enough to attempt it again. But instead of listening to that excuse, I decided to put myself into motion and revisit that passion—no matter what excuse I created.

I put on my running shoes and just bolted out the door.

I jogged. I moved forward.

I didn’t set a timer. I didn’t count my steps. I didn’t check my oxygen levels. I didn’t worry about distance or pace.

I JUST RAN.

And when I finished, something unexpected happened.

I re-discovered a piece of myself that I thought had been lost.

A flame that had gone out.

A joy that had been tamed.

For the first time in a while, I felt genuinely satisfied—not because I had accomplished some great physical feat, but because I had listened to that inner voice telling me to move.

Today reminded me that sometimes moving forward doesn’t mean continuing on the exact same path. Sometimes it means veering, altering course, and finding your drive again.

Tomorrow, and the days that follow, will continue.

And so will I.

The link below is something I came across on my phone that speaks volumes about my experience today. It’s a two hours long video, but please don’t watch it all. The section I’m referencing is minute 16:27 thru 23:36 that reflects the story above.

You Didn't Come This Far to Stop
