Psalm 51:10
A clean heart doesn’t come naturally. It’s not something we are born with, and on our own, we are incapable of producing one. You and I cannot mend the brokenness within our hearts. We can’t manufacture lasting heart transformation through our own effort.
But God promises to do in us what we cannot do for ourselves. He promises to give us a new heart. This is why David, at the lowest point of his life, comes before God and asks for a clean heart. He doesn’t try to work harder or clean himself up first. He brings his brokenness before God and asks Him to heal and transform him.
Today’s service carried just that wisdom—not only just for today, but as a reminder of truths I need to rehearse daily. I’m reminded that the work of transforming my heart was never mine to accomplish on my own. It is God who makes me new.
Therefore Father help me. Help me purify my soul, not my sake, but for those I may help and uplift when possible.
Create in me a clean heart, oh God. Renew a loyal spirit within me.
